Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?

You think you own whatever land you land on
The earth is just a dead thing you can claim
But I know every rock and tree and creature
Has a life, has a spirit, has a name.

You think the only people who are people
Are the people who look and think like you
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger
You'll learn things you never knew, you never knew.

Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon?
Or asked the grinning bobcat why he grinned?
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountain?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?

Come run the hidden pine trails of the forest
Come taste the sun sweet berries of the earth
Come roll in all the reaches all around you
And for once never wonder what they're worth.

The rainstorms and the rivers are my brothers
The otter and heron are my friends
And we are all conned to each other
In a circle, in a hoop that never ends.

How high can sycamore grow?
If you cut it down, then you'll never know.
And you'll never hear the wolf cry to the blue corn moon

For whether we are white or copper-skinned
We need to sing with all the voices of the mountain
Need to paint with all the colors of the wind
Need to paint with all the colors of the wind.

You can own the earth and still,
All you own is earth until
You can paint with all the colors of the wind...

(Walt Disney's "Pocahontas" - Colors of the wind)

  1. Dear Roxana,
You changed your icon. You look intelligent and graceful and lovely as I expected from the way you wrote.

Majestic clouds painted by a beautiful sun set color! I can't help admiring the work of art by nature.
Thank you for a beautiful song. I like it very much. The earth must be a more pleasant comfortable place to live in if all people look at it that way.

It seems you are having a dry unpleasant weather.
Take good care of yourself, Roxana.

  2. Dear Keiko,

I'm touched and honored by your beautiful words of appreciation. Thank you!
Yes, nature is generously offering us spectacular works of art every day but we're just too busy or preoccupied with small things to notice it...
I'm sure there'll be a time when Earth will restore its balance again and human beings will be aware of the great responsibility we have in preserving this unseen, yet undeniable bind that connects us all. What I don't know is if we'll live to see it. I really hope we will!

Thanks to the proximity of the mountains we've just been blessed with a short, stormy rain a few hours ago. So now the air is muggy, but I understood it's pretty unpleasant in Japan also.

Have good, refreshing days ahead Keiko and take care of yourself!

  3. What beautiful skies! I enjoyed clouds dancing, changing their colors in the wind. My face would be painted rosy, too, if I were there...as a part of nature. The song speaks up for us, doesn’t it?

  4. Indeed it does, Yoko!
I must say we had a spectacular sunset the other day. For more than 15-20 minutes everything was bathed in a warm and comforting yellow-pinkish light. Pure harmony!

  5. ...oh! lord! Maybe one day I can at least be grateful enough for seeing the magician of these colors...
Painting with them for sure is for the angels...
    Beautiful post,my dear fried Roxana!
I am touched for your image... You look so confidente and sincere...You are like I used to imagine when trying to give a faceto the words, to the ideas. I do not think the image is the main important but when giving a face to a friend it becomes more and more close to the heart.
Thanks for everything of beauty I always find in your blog!
    Warm hugs!

  6. Well, I'm no painter myself Vera (I have to do with what I am :)), but I very much like this song and its profound meanings.
Thank you very much for your compliment and beautiful words! As always you are very generous.
To be honest I wasn't expecting to receive such nice comments of appreciation after changing my icon. For me also the image is not the most important, that's the reason I rarely display my picture in the profile.

Warm hugs from me as well and I apologize for not answering you any sooner! Have great week ahead!

  7. H,
Magnificent words and photos!! The quotes from Pocahontas remind me of Shinto which is our indigenous religion based on nature worship.

You captured the sunset at its best time. It is so wonderful to enjoy such glorious clouds. This is Magic Hour.

I have always admired your beautiful works. I have clumsy hands.

  8. Hello, Keiko!

Thank you very much, I'm happy you liked both my pictures and the song. As you nicely put it, it was a Magic Hour! A moment in time and out of it somehow...

Thank you for the appreciation as well. I'm absolutely sure you have other talents and gifts I don't! For the moment I'm exercising my hands at nursing a little kitten and preparing goods for the winter. :)

I'm glad you stopped by and I'll try to visit you shortly. My best of wishes and have a good night!
